Skeeter's first outing

Postby skeetersmom » Tue May 15, 2012 6:59 am

It finally got warm enough during a weekend that Skeeter had his first outing. Since he had never felt grass on his feet, I was looking forward to what his reaction would be.

He seemed to have a good time, didn't explore much, but I think that will change when he gets used to it.

My daughter was in town, so she took these for me.

Thank you! He is my first - and probably my last. I don't have any more room for another enclosure for another - but who knows maybe I will win the lottery and be able to get a bigger place!

I just noticed that myself when I saw the pics on the monitor screen (easier for my old eyes) - and the tongue does zip in and out pretty quick....

I have never seen this with other skinks - something I should be concerned about?

Awe he's so cute!!! That's interesting that he enjoyed being outside, I took Snickers outside for the first time a couple weeks ago and he was so scared :( He spent the entire ten minutes trying to race into the bushes (I assume to hide from "predators").

Not sure if I would use the word enjoyed - he stayed pretty still most of the time - but at least he didn't freak out. I am sure that Snickers will get used to it - these are such adaptable creatures! And eventually, his curiosity will get the better of him.

Actually, I after I gave Skeeter a snail (which I put a bit in front of him, giving the feeling of a "hunt"?) he did move around a bit more. Snails are his favorite

When I first took Helo out he freaked out and lunged at me on a regular basis. Now,a month later, he won't stay on the porch - instead he will slide down the stairs and disappear into the garden. It was lucky I looked over to catch him doing it because otherwise he would have gone on a great skink adventure! They do get used to things so quickly don't they?

pretty photos :D congrats on the successful outdoor picnic.

dont be concerned about the pink colour as long as your skink is healthy and happy, from what i know it is completely normal for a skink to have more or less pink parts of their tongues, some are more purple, some more indigo, some completely blue until the throat.

Thanks Linnea. Guess it will be awhile (if ever) before I am not so protective of my Skeeter. So glad for this forum to put my concerns at rest :)
