usually the female gets agitated when its getting close and she starts moving around alot again and the breathing changes again

4-6 weeks!! Guess I can cool down for a while then..
But yeah, it's only been like 3 weeks since I first noticed that he was getting fatter.. So you're probably right, this might take a while longer.

Are your females usually as inactive as mine the weeks before?

females vary, some stay quite active, alot do mellow though, just bask and move to shade, doing the breathing thing,or indoors rest close to the heat, again doing the breathing, then some dont show the breathing and act like an ungravid one just to keep u guessing,i have 1 female, and she never bulks up when gravid, only way i can tell if she is gravid is she goes from shy to very aggressive and will charge and bite, shes a lowlands blotch, quite sizable but is like a rake, makes the males look solid, shes very odd though

your issue is you dont know if and when she mated,so cant have a stab at gestation length, though that can vary to,depending on conditions, mostly temp related, but usually u see an average length to go off,if your lucky enough to watch them mate, they usually can do the heavy breathing for more than 6 weeks, alot of the time i start doubting them and then they drop, lol, being in the northern hemisphere id expect some time in may or june for babies, but again that varies to depending on temps and temps they can pick up from outside

Any experiences about shedding before dropping babies? I think I've read something about that, but I can't find it. He just shed the other day. And he's now humongous.

He looks so different now after shedding! :) On the top picture he still has one piece of shed left on the top of his head, never realized how dark he was before.

cripes, looking fat as,shedding is a good sign, but some shed after babies to,so not 100 percent reliable as towhen to expect bubs, some of mine have babies a week after shedding, but others dont play the game and shed after dropping, some ages after having babies, lol

its definatly showing the signs,it looks like a foot ball, nice looking skink,is it still douing the heavy breathing

But often within a week after shedding, from you experiences, Richard?

Yup, this is one gigantic skink right now! She  still does the breathing, but does the real heavy breathing mostly when asleep, when she's awake she often breaths with small, quick breaths for a while, and then "gasps" for air every now and then. Guess it's getting kind of exhausting for her now. Or him, whatever, lol. Feels so akward to call "him" a she.. I still call him my baby boy..
