What type of cameras do you use?
What setting do you have the cameras on?
What lenses do you use?
Is the sun/light in front of you, behind you to the side?
What type of lighting do you use?

nikon d3000.

so far i have only been able to achieve good photos when litchie is in his terrarium as the uv light emitted helps ERADICATE the grey light indoors and outdoors all year round.
this summer, when its good temps and light settings (in july), ill try out how it looks in mid day light (from above).

still experimenting ~~

I've got a Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd DSLR, it's a few years old but still a brilliant camera for the £139 I paid for it. You should be able to get a decent point and press for a few bucks these days £30-£70, just look for as high a Mega Pixel as you can afford.

The best way to get everything nice is to get them lit with natural daylight, outdoors being tops and from behind the photographer, leave the camera in AUTO (as it's way cleverer at sorting the shot out than you or I) it's got 18X zoom but your better off using the MACRO 6"-24"distance or SUPER MACRO 1"-10" distance for proper close ups and just move closer rather than zoom in.
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

I just use my iphone, in any situation, any lighting, whenever Snickers does something cute. He's so used to having my phone in his face for pics that he doesn't even hiss or run from it anymore. I find I get the best pics when it's sunny out and the sun is coming in a window from the side of the picture!

Currently a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS, whatever that means.

I have it on auto most of the time for all settings, as ISO is so hit and miss and I dont really know how to adjust any of the other settings. I really want to take a photography class though, and get a Nikon DLSR.

default lense

Wherever the sun happens to be at the time, although I am learning to work with my lighting a bit.

I use all 3 depending on what I'm trying to do. Lamp sometimes, sun sometimes, flash sometimes. Although flash is less often than other light sources because it washes everything out!!
