My gf and I were watching my 9 month old merauke tonight and he was holding his back legs up and sliding around like a penguin. He didn't seem to be doing that earlier in the evening when we had him out. When I put him back in the terrarium he did fall a short distance out of my hands but it didn't seem to be that far.
The weird thing is he can still move his back legs. He was using them to push off his log and for certain obstacles, but other than that he is just holding them up by his sides. I don't know why he started doing this all of a sudden. Anyone familiar with this?

It is bluey laziness. As long as he uses them sometimes, if he is too lazy to other times then don't worry. They sometimes just drag themselves around slowly like weirdos.

Thank you Katrina, you made my gf and I feel a lot better. Yea, he seems to be able to use them when he wants to, it was just unnerving to see him scooting around like that! Especially right after I dropped him a little =(

Re: BTS not using his back legs
You mean, he's just tucking them in by his tail like this?
Totally normal, especially when "walking" on something they can easily slide around on, like grass or substrate.
Do keep an eye on him and make sure he isn't overly favoring them, but the fact that you have seen him use them is a good sign.

Pica does that too, he just kicks off and then tucks his legs under his tail and slithers on

Yep! Thats normal!
Its exactly what mine does when it buries. It shoves its head into the substrate, pushes off, then just tucks in his hind legs and uses only his front legs to crawl under the substrate.

I was worried at first when I read the thread title, because I never saw Jambi do this, but knowing it's not bad, it's actually kinda funny

Re: BTS not using his back legs
Hey guys, you were right! He was just being lazy haha. Freakin little guy scared me.
Susann - Yep, that's pretty much what he was doing!
Jambi - It would definitely be funny to see it again now that I know what it actually is lol.
Also, thanks again everyone, this MB has been a God send for learning about these little guys and keeping my panic level down haha.
