Just a question,not actual plan

I know many of you have seen my blueys. And well What would happen if they were bred? Would they look like mom (Marvin) or the dad (serina)? It just seems to interest me. I know that if my beardie was bred his babys would be red,citrus or yellow but I don't know a thing about bluey genetics. What would happen? Just a question that I thought of.

Even if two skink parents looked alike, you'd probably still have a lot of diversity in the appearance of the babies. It seems this is esp true with the Indonesian species IMO. So, depending on how many offspring total, you'd probably get some that look like mom, some that look like dad, and a bunch that look in between.

So I could end up with babes with moms base colour and dads stripe colour? Or dads base and moms base as stripes?

Thats not what I said. You'd probably just get some that aren't as light as dad, but aren't as dark as mom.

Cool. So breeding season is anywere around march? And birthing season june/july-october?

Where does this sudden curiosity in breeding season come from?

Because this is interesting. And I want to give Marvin a birthday date on my calander. Serinas is November 20th. (Her last owner says she was born sometime in november)

In North America most breeders will breed Feb-March, with offspring born May-August. Nov is late so she may have come from a w/c mother. As for Marvin's bday, hmm I'm not sure how you'd pick a date. Unless you pick smack in the middle of baby season, so something like June 15th.

When i have a critter in which no birthday is known, only an approx. age, I assign them a birthday based on how many years and the day I recieved him/her. For example, my Boros (bp) was supposedly about 3 yo, and then figured out what 3 years from the date I got him was. So his birthday is June 5th 2007, since I got him on June 5th 2010. I always put in my notes that this is an ASSIGNED birthday, and my how I came to that.
For my cat, he was supposedly 6 weeks when we found him abandoned, so I figured out what 6 weeks was from the day we got him, and now his birthday is ASSIGNED to be Aug 16th 2005.

Definitely not saying this is the best method, but if you really dont know, it cant hurt. Just make sure that if it is a breeder animal, that you keep them for the minimum time that they would have to age to be bred; there is no way to prove that animal is actually as old as the person claims they are without a logged birthdate. Example: You have a skink you got from a petstore and they claim it is a year old...and say it needs to be 2 years old to breed (just throwing out an age), keep it for the 2 years extra (they would then be 3) just to be safe. Petstores (and occasionally friends UGH) can totally NOT know what they are doing.

as for other good ideas of giving them birthdays, blueys are sold kinds quick after theyre born. i assumed my bluey was sold on an expo in denmark in april 2010 after the pet store owners saying thats where they got him, and he has definitely grown a lot since i got him so i assume this is okay info. so i can pretty much say he was not more than a month when he was sold to the store owners. thus i assume litchies birthday is in middle march. its a bit rought though........i think i like sapphiretigress idea better xD

though i must say i thought he was a lot younger since he was kinda small when i saw him the first time xD but i was very inexperienced with blueys a year ago.

Marvins assighned Birthday is July 27th cus thats when I got him. I remember cus it's a day before my brothers birthday!

Serina is only 1 year old, so you have a good 2 more years then before you should even think about breeding.
Remember, if a female becomes pregnant before she has reached full size, the growing babies may not leave enough room for her organs and intestines to function properly, and she may die.

But asking about the colors of the babies has nothing to do with what date babies are born on.

Trust Me moniter, I know the gendersO_O Now before anyone asks I know serina's from excamining his poopO_O eww. And Marvin shows no aggressivness towards serina and i've never seen her pass a plug even though I tryed to catch it once by putting her on paper towl. Still nothin.

Phaemas - you don't know the genders yet. Marvin could easily be male, you have no way of knowing that Marvin is female. You can't sex accurately based on lack of sperm plugs or by aggressiveness or behavior. This means absolutely nothing. Please stop wasting people's time, you have a guessed birthday so I assume this thread is done and will lock it.

Don't assume you know genders. If you saw a sperm plug from Serina then you know that Serina is male, but Marvin is still unknown.
