Thanks for the replies, having looked through various photos I've seen a few IJ's that share similar markings.

Right now his neck, hips and tail all show extra weight to me. I'd start him on a diet (reduce food, more veggies/greens and less proteins, more exercise) if he was mine. This is just my opinion though, and I haven't had much experience with overweight skinks.
I'm glad I'm not just being a paranoid skink-mum. Those are the areas that made me think he was overweight, particularly the bulges infront of his rear legs. (Though he is due a poo

) I like to keep my pets on the slimmer side of normal as a rule so I've got no experience with animal diets at all.

He's not a definite male though, as far as I know. His previous owner called him a he, but I'm not sure how that came about, whether he was accurately sexed or just guessed at.
I've been trying to get him exersising as much as I can, but he's not too keen, he seems to like sleeping more than running around.

I've been training my son to be on sofa-watch when Gonzos out, so he tells me when he needs to be stopped from disappearing which means he can stay out for longer.

Fingers crossed the combination of diet and exercise will make him a tad more enthusiastic.

There is a natural transition in the wild and because IJs aren't recognized species it is even fuzzier. If I had to call him something, I'd say IJ for sure - but he really is just an in between type BTS that doesn't fall clearly into any category.

Very cool looking, there are a couple pics that look like him in the bluey bible.
He definitely isn't going hungry, you can feed sparingly!

Thanks, I'm obviously biased but I do think he's lovely.

When you say sparingly how little do you think I could get away with? I'm feeding once a week at the moment, his last meal was about 6 crickets (I know they aren't great, the shop was all out of locusts and nowhere here seems to sell roaches

) and a tablespoon of veg/fruit, which he didn't finish. Could I up the veg/meat ratio in the short term 'til he's less round?
