IM BACK.....for now (updated pics)

Postby reaperreptiles » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:12 am

Hey guys, sorry ive been gone so long. I just joined the army last week, I ship out for basic training march 27th so ill be around until then. My ait (training) is in san antonio texas for 14 months so ill be down there for a while once basic is over with, anybody in texas ill be expecting to meet up with and talk bts...lol. Over the time ive been gone ive managed to lose 18 pounds, but still have about 10 pounds to lose before i feel comfortable...figured id enjoy christmas and my birthday (new years) before i join gold's gym and go on another diet.

Well, adam of coiled constrictors still has Toby for me. I have been trying to go see her every month, she's still growing like crazy and is pushing 23 inches now at 18 months old....no weight sorry. I noticed before adam took her that her her hips were starting to bend upwards, which worries me a bit, i dont know if its just a genetic thing or if maybe the stress has caused her growth to be affected. Theres some pics below of her hips, any ideas would be appreciated. When she is being handled or is nervouse its very noticable, but when she is completely calm its not noticable at all...so im stumped.

Beetlejuice is now about 6 months old and about pushing 15 inches, her last weight in she was at 350 grams. A few months back I moved her feeding to twice a week because she was starting to get really fat. She has slimmed down a bit and looks great, her colors are getting brighter with each shed and her side markings have started turning from black to a brown. Her temperment has mellowed out incrediably, She spent the first 6 months on carpet and i just switched her over to aspen as she was attempting to dig into carpet. She shows no territorial or aggressive behavoir (like toby) at all but still a little scittish when out of her cage, if i put my hand into the cage she lets me pet her and sometimes she'll lick my fingers. I feel keeping her on the carpet early on has greatly inmproved her temperment. Still stumped on her sex though. Well heres some pics of her.

My last animal is dante, he was purchased from dachui dragons about 4 months ago. I bought him to start a white trans/hypo leatherback project but to my surprise he has changed into a neon citrus with orange tiger markings. His body is starting to saturate in orange, and delete the yellow citrus so i have no idea how he's gonna turn out. Dont want to spend too much time on him...this is a skink forum, dont want to get in trouble. lol. but anybody who saw the original post in the off-subjects with his breeder pics will be shocked at how he looks now....he has a few legs in shed today.

Well, those are my updates and I hope everyone is doing great and is having a great holiday! oh yes, im purchasing (3) dragons4you cages in the next few months. Has anybody ever used these before, they are decently priced, safe, and stackable. Which is so important to me, along with giving my animals alot more space. Well....again MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!

My rescue Sylvia has a similar bump that is from MBD damage. Sylvia's bump isn't as smoothly sloping as Toby's, and I obviously can't say for certain if it is the same thing causing Toby's, but I'll put up some pictures for your reference, hopefully they'll help.

This picture is one of the first I took of her to document the bump and you can see how it is more obvious when she is tense, like you mentioned with Toby.

Here it is more relaxed.

I was hoping it wasn't....but it makes sense how it has gotten so bad without her in my care. My friend is a good guy but more of a snake guy, doubt he's giving her enough calcium and supplements. But she'll be back here in a few months. Until then I'll have to schedule a visit with Stahl and get it looked at, might be treatable if I act soon enough. Thanks guys.

He probably just isn't used to it becuase snakes require no calcium supplements.

Well, you can stop the progression by telling the person who is caring for her to start giving her more calcium with D3, and get a UVB lamp on her. Also send the caretaker a copy of the great new food chart, and tell them to stay away from the goitrogenic foods, and stick to the ones that have the proper calcium to phosphorus ratios; 1:1- 2:1.

You can not "cure" MBD, but you can hopefully stop the progression. Good luck! How frustrating it must be for you to not be able to care for her.

Hopefully you and your friend can get it under control before it gets any worse. They're both beautiful skinks.

Yeah, I would assuming the lump was MBD as well, but obviously we dont have the necessary qualifications to confirm this. I must say, that beardie is amazing! I am very envious of it and im not a beardie person!

That bump does look like MBD. If you're ever planning to use this skink for breeding you'll want to get it treated ASAP. If the pelvic bones end up damaged (since they're near the bump) I'd be really worried about her ability to safely carry a litter. That's just the first thing I think of looking at her.

You've got some gorgeous animals.

Well I've worked it all out, he agreed to put a stronger uvb on her and give her more calcium. Hopefully this will stop the progression. Planning on taking her to Stahl after Christmas, he can probably prescribe me some liquid calcium and helped her out a bit. Thanks guys for the advice, I'll be sure to get xray pics up. I had an idea about maybe starting a portfolio here on the forum with pics on medical conditions, xrays, parasites and so on. Would be a great deal of help for alot of people....but just a thought for the moderators. By the way, I love the new layout of the forum!!! Looks great.

I've had the same idea - we started something with the Medical Advice sticky, but unfortunately photos got deleted that have to be replaced. I am really hoping to start an entire page of info like this for reference at some point. If anyone has xrays or other relevant info that they would like to share, it would be greatly appreciated. I already have some photos of dehydration from a generous member, etc.

I would really love to collect and keep any of this information available for future use, so if anyone has anything to share it would be wonderful - my email is kat.sharko@gmail.com. I can't guarantee you will see it up right away, but I will definitely save it and do something with it in future. :D

Beetlejuice is looking good, will be interesting to see how much he/she lightens up. Mine from the same litter is a darker version of yours, but her side markings are a shade lighter than black as well I believe(hard for me to tell as I am a bit colorblind).
