My BTS digging on box and at glass?

Postby PlinkoPachinko » Sun Sep 18, 2011 1:24 pm

I've only had my BTS for about a month, and she's becoming bolder and bolder. Recently she's started climbing on top of her box and digging at the sides, I'm not sure why. I dunno if she wants out or if she wants food. Anyone have any ideas? :?

I wouldn't worry too much - looks like she is just exploring and checking things out. It doesn't necessarily mean she wants anything.

I'd consider covering two or three of the glass sides so she feels a bit more secure and safer. You can just use posterboard or similar, doesn't have to be fancy, but that will likely allow her to feel less exposed. Otherwise, digging and checking things out isn't any cause for concern. She just looks curious! :D

Doing this seriously made a BIG difference in how much I see Icky.
I surrounded both ends of his tank on the outside with plants, and now that he's got a bit of privacy, he walks around MUCH more.

I have had similar experiences with leopard geckos. All glass enclosures sort of suck for reptiles. They definitely like their privacy.

If I notice my skinks scratching at the front glass or trying to climb it, I tend to open the tank and give them the opportunity to climb out onto my hand. If they do I'll take them to explore or cuddle somewhere. With a few tries they now know it's a good way of getting my attention. However, with 17 active skinks I generally have to ignore the constant scratching now, so there's a downside.

I do what Fatal does. If Onyxia's scratching at the glass I'll open the door and see if he wants to come out, if he does I usually put him in the bedroom to roam around for an hour or two. (He's not allowed to roam the lounge anymore, he's fond of eating rat poos that fall out of the rat cage  )

i do the same with litchie whenever i have the time. he will climb on the glass doors until he tires of it, even if im not in the room(its surprising how such a long reptile can climb and stay like that!). though if i open he gladly climbs up on my arm to look for treats.
