God...that is just...that's disgusting. I can't really form decent words in my head about how absolutely terrible that is. I'm glad you're stepping in, I hope that your words will push them to do something, and if they don't...I hope the proper authorities are notified because that is nothing short of cruelty and inhumane treatment. (People wouldn't be to keen on hearing of an infant human forced to live in it's own fecal matter, why do animals have to have no care for the same treatment?)
I'm glad you're doing something, I hope to hear more about this. And likewise I'm so glad that my own local mom&pop store loves and genuinely cares for their animals.

Keep us posted on that situation!
It was very generous of you to give them a second chance. I would have had the ASPCA, Humane Society, and the health department on the phone in minutes if that had been me.
Pet stores make me laugh too - not in a 'haha' kind of way either. I worked at (undisclosed) store, and they are still giving out faulty advice to novice pet owners - reptiles and small animals alike. It is not unusual for me to know more about the rodents than they do, and the reptiles? Just...no. I was actually told by a guy at one such store while looking at a juvenille (HYBRID!) BTS that I could feed it plain crickets as a complete diet and he would be fine
(poor thing looks like it is starving to death, I can see his hip bones very well). I see this little guy at the store everyday, and while I wish I could rescue him, I do not want to give them the victory of earning money off of these practices. I go to the bigger stores for supplies and nothing else.

sorry guys, ive been so busy these last few weeks. I did end up calling the ASPCA and the local police. I went into the store last weekend and it was worse than it was before. there were dead animals and the store smelled of rotting flesh. I approached the owner (who was actually there!) and asked him why the store was so disgusting bringing up the lack of food and water and the dead animals (and the horrible smell) he got *ticked at me and realized I was the one who left the note. He started yelling threats at me and cursing and what not. My friend was outside veiwing all of this. The guy actually threw a handfull of pens at me. so i went outside and called the cops, then the ASPCA. the cops showed up and arrested the man. im still going threw assault charges. I was going to call the health department but the cop told me not to worry about it that when they did the investigation with ASPCA or animal control they would handle it. So between this, funerals and moving out ive been so swamped. today is my first day to relax in a week. feel like crap but happy that this store is probably gonna be shut down

most of the petshops you guys talk about sound horrible!
we dont seem to have that problem in new zeland well at least in the the city i live in there has only been one petshop that was bad here and it has had a change of owner so it is better but still not good in the reptile department. anyway even the big chain store here (animates) take good care of their animals most of the employes know their stuff and if they dont know anything they will refer you to someone else.and they always seem to have someone with good exeprience with fish or reptile. and the chain caresheets are good i dont ussally spot problems in them but somtimes i find a few but they arnt ver major and thats for frogs.
its reeally only trutles that get treated badly in pet shops here and it either glass infront of uv lights or more than one turtle in a tannk
