My male Northern and a James Wilson baby

Postby critterguy » Wed Aug 10, 2011 6:18 pm

First up some pictures of my new baby skink from James Wilson(baby B). Hopefully turns out to be a girl. Was great meeting him in person and talking skinks! Little tike measures about 10 inches from head to tail tip. She's got nice color and pattern and I hope she turns out similar to the mom. Apologies for the poor photos I cannot see them till they are uploaded due to LCD screen being broken.

And photos of my male Billy(short for Billunggura). He's orangey after a shed but this fades to a more pastel color shortly afterward. He is about 19 inches in length-would likely be 20 or so with a complete tail. From some of Andrew Seike's original adults.

Beautiful skinks!
How do you get the babies to be so chubby?

I have one of James babies too and she is also chunky. I feed mine a diet high in protein calcium and fiber. Dog food with occasional mustard greens or alfalfa and carrots, a few crickets here and there, boiled egg and fruit as a treat. Mine loves blackberries ;-)

Thanks all! The baby has proven quite easy to feed and stays happily plump with little issue. Daily(sometimes morning and evening) occasionally skipping days. Feeding soaked Earthborn holistic dog kibble($3 trial size bag has lasted a while!) and some cat food as well as mealworms. Dusting with Repcal every other feeding. Billy is pretty much on the same diet but fed less often(once or twice a week).

Katrina: I sure hope so. Even if it turns out to be a male all won't be lost as I'm sure someone could use such a pretty skink. It would be neat to get a pairing combining the males lighter colors with her hopefully dark colors while keeping the nice black and creamy yellow on the sides that both animals possess. Should produce a nice assortment. Billy has a funny nose scale pattern-the so call "bow tie" mentioned in the caresheet.

I wonder if those weird nose scales might be passed on to offspring or if are just random. I have the full collection - normal, bowtie and Kira has the weird quadruple one. let us know if Billy's offspring have that!
