hi all, one newbie question here

Postby Anderous » Sat Jul 16, 2011 6:33 pm

hi, I just thought of a possible minor problem when i get my first BTS in August. The only place in the room i have for the tank i will be using, a 4x2x2, will be situated in a way that my bearded dragon and the BTS will be able to see eachother. I know a lot of reptiles dont like that and was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on this at all. I did however already think of a solution, albet a slightly annoying one. All i would have to do if they didnt like it would be to get one of those tri fold poster board presentation things, whatever their called, and sit it on the floor at an angle which would take care of it.
Anyway, ive been reading the care sheet and trying to think of every possible thing to do to get ready and i think i am, but i did have that one question, so if anyone has any experience with BTS being able to see another reptile, id love to hear it, thanks guys

I have one bts that did not like seeing the other so I taped paper up on the end of the enclosure. After a few weeks I covered only the bottom half so he could look over it if he wanted. A couple months later I took the paper off and set a large plant between their enclosures and he is ok with that now.

I try to keep my bluey from being in the situation where they can't get out of the site of the other blueys. It sounds like you might be able to accomplish that by putting a piece of paper or the equivalent across the botton 2-3" of the enclosure. BTS are short, and they wouldn't normally be able to see out if you block the bottom few inches.

They may not have any issues at all being able to see each other, but it does seem to cause stress for some individuals, so I would just have a plan for blocking the view in case.

you should think a bit before putting a brand new reptile into a room with an older reptile, there is a quarantine period, yes? not sure about the diseases they might catch, but im sure someone will fill you in on that.

my bts came from a pet store, he could see turtles, beardies and uromastyx from the terrariums next door, depending on how the terrarium was placed the year he was there. He doesnt seem to mind at all. and not the other reptiles in the pet store either.
