thunderstorms and bts

Postby Linnea » Sat Jul 02, 2011 9:10 am

Are there many thunderstorms in Australia?
How do lizards in general cope with thunder?
How does your bts react to thunder?

There have been quite a lot of thunderstorms lately since its summer, though theyve been stronger than usual. Litchie comes out to see whats going on, and flickers his tongue a lot, though hes walking around rather casually even if theres a loud thunderbolt that hits a tree, water or railway.

We had a huge thunderstorm over here. Neither skink nor iguana seemed very impressed by it though.... Don't think Aussie bts's will be much different

We had a few summer storms this year, the blueys simply sat out in the rain and thunder.

We get our share of thunderstorms in summer but outside of a jerking reaction from thunder that rattled the windows on one occasion, nothing much seems to faze the blotchies.

I have sometimes seen heightened alertness when a storm is approaching. I believe this may be more to do with detecting the drop in atmospheric pressure. Anyway that is not a scientific study only anecdotal, so is just a good story.

We watch the cows to know when to go for cover :D We are always outside watching the storm getting closer. From our house we can see all around, so great to see. But when the cows are running for cover we know it is time to get inside and usually within a few minutes the rain comes and the thunder is not far behind :D

Our two stay outside during the summer months, storms or no storms. They don't seem startled or irritated by them, but I've never noticed them laying out in one either. They have lots of dry hides they can go in to and that's where you can usually find them.

One time I saw Rosie duck down and burrow super fast, the second he was under a huge hailstorm hit! It was pretty coincidental if you ask me, he seemed like he was afraid and no one made any scary noises, it was very quite
