How much do I feed?

Postby osheam » Thu May 26, 2011 6:00 pm

Ive heard people say feed them once or twice a week, and I get that part. But approximately how much food do I feed?

About 2-3 tablespoons depending on age, size etc. If you aren't concerned with weight then closer to 3 tbsp is good. If you have a small skink or are concerned with them being overweight then cut it back. Some skinks will stop eating when full, so I give more food to those that I know will not overeat. The couple that will clean up everything I put in front of them get a bit smaller portions! :D

Ive read to feed them enough food to fit in a mayo lid. I usally feed Ruckus a little bit more. Sometimes hell eat the whole thing, sometime he wont.

I've found that an amount 2-3 times the size of their head is a good portion size.
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Once Felix cleans his food dish of greens and veggies he gets his worms. I think he figured this out to a science cause now he eats his veggies pretty fast then looks at me and waits. He loves his worms and eats plenty of 'em!

hmm thats a good idea! I think i'll try that once i get a colony of Dubias up and running. As soon as I sell this 55 gal tank i have, i will have enough money to put back into things like extra lights, more fixtures/heat pads, and fun things like roaches and mice :)

I love Alioop's suggestion of 2-3 times the size of their head. That seems like a good measure to go by.
How often? I believe the fairly common consenus is 0-6 mos feed every day, 6-12 mos feed every other day, 12+ mos feed 1-2 times a week--or every 3-4 days.
