Mid-West Reptile Show/Cin-City Reptile Show

Postby JennyBug » Sun May 08, 2011 10:43 pm

On 5/8 I went to the Cin-City Reptile Show (Cincinnati) and there was a vendor there selling some BTs. She looked a little insulted when I told her I would give $20 for two of her skinks (one was an Indo and was was a Northern, marked at $125/ea or 2/$200). She mumbled a little and I told her that they were skin and bones and that she wasn't feeding them. "Well they eat fine and get pinkies now and then" was her reply. "I can see both of their hip bones and I can see that one's backbone". I shook my head and walked away. I was so mad, I didn't catch the name of the company. I hope I caused enough of a scene that it stopped some people from buying from them, but prob not.
Does anyone on here go to the show in Indy? I would like to log a complaint with the people that put on the show in Cincinnati and Indy against the vendors, but as I said I don't know there company name. They are the booth on the far left when you walk into the building at Indy(between the ATM and bathrooms). They also had dying Jackson Chams on 4/30 in Indy. Jen and I were talking about some regulations on turtles at one point and they said they didn't have any there b/c it is illegal to sell in Indy, but could meet us on the Indiana/Ohio border and we could make a deal there if we wanted one.

Any info would help.
Thanks,
RJ

I know the exact vendor who you are talking about (there is usually young kids behind the booth trying to sell). I have never been impressed with their animals, but its been a while since I have been to the Midwest show (January I believe). I cant tell you who the vendor is though.

Good idea with complaining to the show organizers. Seems like a very smart way to deal with that.

Sorry, I can't help with the name. But please let us know how it goes! Good luck!

I know the vendor you are talking about as well. Last time I went, they some young blueys but I didn't examine them long enough to see if they were really healthy or not but one that I held was very active. However, when I was there, I did notice that they had some horrible looking leopard geckos and their chameleons were very stressed because they were so dark. I may still buy one from them so I can give it a much better home but at the same time, I don't want to have a very ill skink on my hands.

Buying a skink to rescue it is really nice for that one skink, but terrible for the others who you are letting that person/store/dealer buy. If you give them money, you are supporting what they've done, whether you want to or not.

I totally agree with Fatal_S. Don't buy so they cannot purchase more animals they do not feed and care for...then return to an expo again.

Another issue: I think I found out who the vendor is, but if it is the one I think it is, then they are one of the three vendors that host the Cin-City show... :(

On the note of buying from them, that's the reason why I offered them $20 for the two, to get them away from the people, but show the people that they weren't going to make any money off of the sale.

if I see them again (skinks) I will prob offer them $10 for both and see if they are tired of hauling the skinks around with them.

I would still try to file a complaint. If an animal is being mistreated or not being given the care it -needs-, I wouldn't care WHO they were or what position they held, I'd tell someone about it.
