New Group of Fire Skinks

A few months ago, i decided to pick up some fire skinks. Nine to be exact. Im finally getting some solid weight on them and starting to see the males chasing the females. These things are so cool. I will hopefully have some time to get individual pics later this week, but until then heres two cool feeding pictures.

I love fire skinks. I used to keep them and had fertile eggs a few times but always managed to balls up the incubation. I have been thinking of getting some more. Good luck with them, they are really good fun.

I had a pair of them a few years ago, some of the coolest reptiles i've ever had. Some can be quite squirmish and bitey, but most are relaxed and tolerant of handling.

The smaller types make great display animals,also easier to house being smaller ,u could keep a good colony in what you would use to house a single bluey,and they dont trash a cage as much

Valley,theres a member on here with a rhread on these guys and how they have set them up the eggs incubate in the cage substrate and hatch out fine

I remember that thread, I posted a short little "how to" guide on breeding them. I have a friend who used to produce all the captive bred babies that were available a few years ago

Beautiful! Have mulled over getting fire skinks many times and had the opportunity to do so but have never taken the plunge. If you post lots of pictures, I can live vicariously through you and will never have to get them!

Gorgeous!! Congratulations on the new project and pets. It's wonderful seeing more people work toward captive breeding these guys. I love my pair, and can't wait to add a couple more down the road.

The thread in question was mine... I haven't seen any aggression/predation behavior in the adults, but I've only had 2 clutches hatch so far. Only time will tell if that changes, but I have high hopes. I do dig through and pull all the babies as soon as I see signs that they've hatched, so they aren't exposed to the adults for long.

Are you keeping them together? Don't males fight? Or can you sex them?

I kept the group together which turned out to be the easiest way to sex them. Seperate the ones that try to kill each other over a week or so. Sell the spare males. It worked great.
