these guys are cool,so thought id start a thread on them,i keep these like northens, last season I found bits of babies, not sure what happened or if they were born still born, that pics from a couple of seasons ago and those got raised with the 3 young adults with no issue

back then I fully shut them down, last season I kept day heat but cycle them now with no night heat year round, winter nights get very cold here and ambients drop, hopefully have better luck this season

Very cool skinks Richard. I wish they were easier to come by outside of OZ.

I really like the Hosmer's skinks, they look so prehistoric. I think I find them endearing in the same way I do the shinglebacks.

What are they like to keep? Are they a more mellow skink, or pretty feisty?

very similar to gidgee skinks personality wise, they can be skitty when trying to pick them up but are quite relaxed once picked up

That's good, it's great they are handleable. How many do you have? Do they live in groups? I always imagined that they would live happily together, but I don't actually know that as a fact, it's just how I picture them :noknow:

Just how many types of skink do you own, Richard? Your place must be a skink lovers paradise!

they do well in groups, just need to be careful with extra males, they were fine with babies left in with them to,until I moved them on at around a year of age, only issue ive had is last season I found bits of a baby in there cage, though size looked tiny so may have been born dead, previous litter they all seemed like they went out of there way to interact with the babies

Female on lower right, male above her

Been watching them closely and can see heavy laboured breathing in this female, whole body and its making her head rise, its often said its hard to see the heavy breathing signs in egernia but im noticing it in the hosmers and a gidgee skink, especially compared to the males

I filmed the two in this pic so when i get a chance will post it on my utube page, easier to see it then explain it

Perhaps that they can be flighty makes it harder to notice,i havnt really noticed signs before till last season and still cant tell with cunninghams, but may just need to look closer

Very nice skinks. I like Hosmers and they are definitely on my list. There were 2 or 3 pairs on sale at the Hamm show last weekend, but far too expensive for me right now...

Mark.

I can't see any videos uploaded after your Kimberly Courting video from November 2012. I'm subscribed to you, but your videos after that one have never popped up in my sub box, and I can't see them on your channel.
