Thank you so much for sharing this here! We look forward to hearing more about it.
Do you know if anyone here in the US are doing these?

I wouldn't imagine there would be anyone in the US using this technique. It was presented at an unusual pet conference late last year, and there was an American keynote speaker, Stephen Divers, so unless he has told people about it, it is unlikely. However, the equipment used to perform this technique is readily available in every vet clinic, so there is no reason why vets over there couldn't start using it. Identifying sex using this technique does require some level of experience with it, but everyone has to start somewhere, and once this experience is achieved, it is a very accurate method to identify sex in mature animals. I am currently assessing it's accuracy in animals as young as 2 months, very exciting times!

I actually showed this to one of my DVMs... He seemed confused. Lol. We then proceeded to have a long Google session of lizard anatomy!!

What did you/he find confusing about it Meeper? I'd be happy to clarify. The poster is more aimed at keepers in the hobby, not vets or scientific folk.

Oh, he's a small animal vet, he finds reptiles perplexing, lol.

Fascinating. It could solve the ages-old problem of sexing/breeding BTS. This could be a game-changer. Very exciting.

This might also apply to monitors as well.

It could work on goannas too, yes. It might potentially work on a large variety of sexually monomorphic lizard species. Would just have to test it on animals of known sex first to see if it works! Exciting stuff!

My experience with the local vets here (Newcastle NSW) is that they are very hit and miss with reptiles, I doubt any here would know anything about this method (and they'd most likely suggest a more intrusive and expensive sexing method).

Update:
There is a guy doing this in Miami, FL named Marc Kramer.
We may check him out.
If anyone else does, please report back.

I've compiled a group of photos of skinks that have been sexed using this method and I'm starting to question my eye with our tried and true external sexing methods based off this information. Not saying we should reconsider them but merely it would be neat to have a gallery of a broad sample size of gender confirmed skinks. If anyone would like to contribute photos of skinks sexed using this method I'd be grateful to add them to the pile and present them to the group once we have a meaningful sample size. Need more photos of males, an aerial view (not the X-ray although that may help too). I'm best reached on Facebook messenger @ April Linkfield.

Let me know if you're interested in participating or seeing the research. Thanks!

That's great!
Thank you for doing this.
We don't have any confirmed sexes yet, but are planning to make an appointment for the spring for two skinks. I'll update you once this happens.
