Hi Richard, can you tell us the source of this? Interested to know the circumstances.

Is this the article?

Just wondering whether the mechanism - (assuming that there is no divine intervention haha) is actually retention and statis of embryos rather than storage of live sperm for a year. mmmm. I'm having difficulty with concept that sperm could be viable for that long.

Other options are parthenogenesis which is noted in a number of other reptiles.

i hadnt seen that one scott, not sure if the same ,read about one in danny browns keeping and breeding aussie skinks book in bluetongue section,it states there was a male involved, though female had been seperated from male for 11 months prior to second litter, didnt sau how many babies, ill email danny and see if i can find the source, cant see a paper listed on sperm storage in bibliography but there are papers on reproduction so could be in one of those papers

could be different source or could be the story has changed as it spreads, lol,i shall report back

Doing some digging around I've found this story represented several times in different forms on the web. mmm I suppose as a person of science - I'm a little sceptical if this is the only report that generated this. I wouldn't fall over backwards in shock if the potential for parthenogenesis existed and/if so what the triggers for this response could be, but I believe that if any of these phenomenon occurred I believe they would be better known to science by now in this species.
