Injured Baby Blue Tongue

Postby keltay » Wed Feb 27, 2013 5:27 pm

Hi all,

I have joined this forum to get some more advice.. I havent had alot to to do with Blue tongues before, actually I ahve had nothing except to look at them before...\

Now I have found myself the adopted carer for a baby blue tongue my dog has attackd.

I have contacted Sydney Wildlife who gave me the number to a vet. I took him to the vet where they checked him out and said he should be ok just clean the wounds with salt water once per day and let him go when he is better....

My problem is he will not eat I have tried mashed banana and grapes he licked the banana off a spoon but he doesnt seem to be able to do much more than that.. he will drink if i put drops of water on his nose.

He also just keeps walking in circles, he cant seem to walk straight at all its like he has neurological damage and his body will only let him go one way..

I have gone into this blind with no idea..

The main advice I need is the circling.... does this mean the injury is worse than the vet thought? I called the vet back and they said they dont know much about them even though their names as down with sydney wildlife as a nominated reptile carer.

can anyone give me any type of advise or something I just want to help him....

It sounds like the damage is pretty bad, however if the vet thought there was significant neuro damage I'm sure they would have euthanised it. It is possible that the circling is pain related so may fix itself after a couple of weeks. Anyway, congratulations on caring enough to try to save it. Make sure the bedding is kept clean to try to avoid infections. Keep up the hydration, try some mashed up garden snails, or a little bit of dog food.
If you wait, all that happens is that you get older. M. Andretti
