My blue tongue lizard hasn't eaten properly for a while (which is normal for him over winter) but he has just shed and started eating again, and right after (maybe 5 minutes) the first time he ate he did a MASSIVE poop, but it wasnt really poop it was mainly a green-ish black watery liquid, and a pile of little chunks that feel like tiny rocks and sand, and it smelt REALLY bad. and i have fed him twice since and both times he has done the same thing again. And just today, the 3rd time, he did one like the other ones then 2 that pretty much just looked like black gunk, but when i rinsed it off with water it looked like sand. Black, stinky sand. Any ideas what this issue could be?
what i have fed him was a mix of raw egg, dog food and some veggies. I offeres him cooked chicken, spinnach, banana and beans several times and he wasnt interested, but he always goes for egg so i mixed that up and will be feeding him that and offering more normal food (greens and dog food) till he starts eating normal again
Also he is 2 and a half year old eastern blue tongie and lives in a large outdoor enclosure in brisbane (plenty of sun and heat) and the ground is dirt. He has been in this enclosure for a year and a bit, and this has never happened before.
Pls help my lizard is pooping weird.

Is it eating the substrate? I would temporarily change its bedding into paper towels for now and take it to a vet that knows how to treat reptiles. Sometimes vets don't know what they are doing when it comes to treating a reptile.

Re: Pls help my lizard is pooping weird.
I am starting to think that that is probably the issue, the stuff in his poop does resemble the substrate and it is probably likely that he has been eating it. Is there any substrate you would suggest?? The enclosure is 3x2 meters so its a pretty large area, i have heard that some sorts of mulch/wood chips are both cheap and effective, i am going to look into it asap and see which ones are the best but any suggestions would be appreciated. i know its probably not the best thing to do but im gonna change his substrate and wait it out to see if he comes good. I can't afford several hundreds of dollars to take him to a vet for them to tell me i need to change his bedding, don't get the wrong idea, i do love him and want to help him as much as i can but im a year 12 student working part time, and i simply can't afford it.

Re: Pls help my lizard is pooping weird.
Ive never had a problem using course kritters' krumble for my easterns.
Might be good idea to grab a sample of his next poo to give to the vet to check for parasites.
Sorry if you can't afford and your parents refuse pay to take your BT to a vet you really shouldn't have one as a pet. It''s not fair to the skink. It wont cost hundreds of dollars to take your BT to a vet unless there is some serious wrong requiring an invasive surgical procedure.
I'd look up the local herp / reptile vet and give them a call on the phone to get the price for a wellness consult and ask how much to do fecal floats.

I would use cypress mulch or fir bark (Zoo Med Repti Bark)

Re: Pls help my lizard is pooping weird.
Thanks for your help guys, if he hasn't come good after the next 2 feeds im going to take him to a herp vet. i am in the process of changing the bedding in the big outdoor cage to cyprus mulch, as the dirt currently in there is what i now believe to be the cause of the problem. For now he is inside, with paper towel and plenty of love. Any other help or advice is still appreciated. Thanks.
