BTS in Southern California?

Postby SleepyCheesy » Sat Apr 22, 2017 3:36 pm

I am looking for a BTS in Southern California, I only need the animal, everything else is accounted for. I am willing to pay up to 150 dollars but I can't go much higher than that, as I am a bit short on funds.

Thanks,
SleepyCheesy

$150 probably won't get you one. Cbb northerns are around $250-300. You may be able to find a import Indonesian for around $150-200 but most skinks in that price range are imports and will require a vet check to clear up parasites. Keep in mind that a cheaper import plus vet checks usually costs more than getting a cbb animal from a breeder.

You're welcome. It's the start of baby season really soon. Best first skink. They are always 100% cbb. Just learn to know what they look like. Lots of pet stores/ vendors at shows will try to pass Indos off as northerns.

I Know! My local pet store has a classic Austrailian northern BTS and theyŕe trying to pass it off as an indonesian, even though the animal is 27 inches lol!

That's odd. Northerns are more desirable than Indonesians. You sure it's a northern? Very rare for northerns to show up in pet stores. Does it look anything like this? Do you have a picture of it?

Yes it's normally that other way around, as Australian skinks have to have been captive bred and born to be legal because they cannot be legally exported/imported from Australia. Indonesian species however can be legally exported/imported so are more available over there and cheaper.

My bet is they are labelling it as "classic Australian" - which isn't an actual real species by the way - but it is actually one of the imported Indonesian species. I doubt they would be able to positively identify what they have let alone the care needs.
