blotchy and easterns

Postby Colin Hamilton » Fri May 04, 2007 2:16 am

Check the size difference between the blotcy and the easterns, they are all about 3 months old,the baby easterns are sydney type. The blotchy pictured is 12 inches long overall, obviously ile have to feed up the easterns a bit, they are fairly healthy but could do with more weight.Ime thinking of calling one of these little easterns edward,as they appear sneaky and able to 'slink"themselves into a tight hole like rat up a drain pipe texas coyote eddy. :hehe: Image

Yeh zac,the blotchy is about same age and 12 and a half inches long LOL yeh the easterns come from a lady up in the blue mountains near lisa that was selling them for ten dollars each if you bought more than one lizard. One of the easterns looks like jubby, the others are more orange bownish type in the bands,i got them to eat a large snail each today and they loved it,also had some mushroom, catfood and bannana with calcium sprinkled on top,edd is the fattest one that ate two snails.Cheers!Image

Do blotchies tend to be larger than easterns, or do they just grow faster?

Good question lura, the blotchys from the NSW mountains and tablelands areas both seem to grow faster? but are definetly much bigger and longer than easterns in the areas where they both occur together.Northern form blotchys are born long and robust and females can grow over 24 inches in length and be very heavy because of the strong body. :)

Ralphie was bigger than Jubby before he was a year old than Jubby full grown at over three years old. And the main difference I see between them is that the easterns have distinctive sections in head, body and tail (they have a big head, then their neck, then their body and then they curve in again to their tail), whereas the blotchies are kind of thick all the way from head to toe.

There was someone selling easterns around here? I must've missed that. I would have gotten a baby making buddy for Jubby! Oh well.
....selling any of the Ralphie babies, Colin?

As babies, the blotchies I've seen have been way stockier than baby easterns. Blotchies seem to get this chiselled looking, almost equilateral triangle head, whereas easterns are all slender and streamlined, with an isosceles triangle head. Doesn't surprise me that blotchies grow bigger and heavier.
