Amelia's toes are falling off
So Amelia always seems to be fine and in no pain but in the past year or so, maybe longer, she's lost almost all of her toes. I don't know why this happens and I never ever actually found a toe until today, since I have different bedding now. It's so odd and I don't know why this happens. Has it happened to you guys? What can I do to prevent it? I know that it didn't get stuck on anything because it was just laying on the floor. Please help.

Hi, and first and foremost I am no expert, but this is not normal in for your skinks to be doing this. What type of skink is this? What enclosure and substrate do you use? Temps? Humidity? Have you taken it to the vets? Usually toes only come off from stuck shed or they get caught in something. I would have your skink looked at by an experienced reptile vet.

Re: Amelia's toes are falling off
Toe loss is usually the result of a stuck shed. Skin binds on the toes, cuts off circulation, the toe dies and falls off. Inadequate humidity is the culprit.
To prevent this, increase the humidity in the enclosure, and provide a hiding box with damp substrate. If you see stuck shed on the toes, it must be removed immediately.

Lack of moisture in the substrate can also cause toe loss. What was your substrate before you changed it and how often did you mist it?

The above posts are right. Your humidity is too low. Are you using newsprint as a substrate? I'd switch to something that holds humidity better.

From what I can see in the pics your skink is either Halmahera or Merauke. Both species are Indonesian and have high humidity requirements, Halmahera the highest. (80% or above optimal) Dry sheds cause this as mentioned in above posts. Humidity holding substrate is a must.
