Male or female?

Postby Y33T » Mon May 28, 2018 12:15 am

This is Bajo. My eastern bluey. He’s 1 year and 2 months old. I don’t know his sex yet but I’m thinking male.
He’s about 40-41cm long so he’s not fully grown.
His eyes are brown if you can’t tell from the pic.

bit young and undeveloped .... a photo from directly over top of the skink will help us see his body structure and help us make an educated guess.

Also if you lift the tail, and take a picture, it may help to identify the sex, based on the presence of hemipenal bulges.

Sorry for the very late response, here are more pics, hopefully they’re good enough.

based on the very broad looking head and jaws , males tend have a broader heads and wider jaws (they hold the females using their mouth when trying to do the deed) , I think you have a very handsome boy.

A good shot from directly over top him showing his enter body will confirm this.

Easterns are a bit tougher than Northerns to tell visually until they are over a year old. I've guessed two wrong so far!
Jury's still out on this one. See if you can catch when he goes to the bathroom and watch for those tallywhackers to pop out. they don't always evert, but obviously if you see that it's a boy! The lack of which doesn't necessarily mean otherwise, either. Age and pairing with an assumed opposite would be a better way, but my Eastern males are not even aggressive towards eachother, and my females co-exist. When I get a chance I will send pictures of my two known pairs.
