Hi , I don’t even really know where to begin I have had my blue tongue skink anakin for 2 years and I have had nothing but trouble . If im fully honest I’m shocked He’s made it through everything he’s suffered with , it’s one thing after another . First we have mites and internal parasites but eventually I managed to get rid of those , then we had a humidity and shedding issue with resulted in a toe loss . Then about 6 months ago he caught an RI and it was bad but we managed to get through that and he was healthier than ever . Then a few weeks ago I noticed the palms of his feet where scabby and dry I took him straight to the vet and I’m still in the process of dealing with those but I find bathing him daily in diluted tamodine is doing the trick at one point I was sure he’d loose some toes but no the little fighter pulled it back . Now I have noticed what I’m sure is the early signs of mouth rot and I’m just at a loss as to how I can carry on like this.
I’m clearly doing something wrong but myself and the vet have gone back and forth about what it could be and we can’t figure it out but if I can’t get him healthy I may have to consider giving him to someone who can care for him better but that idea kills me he’s he loviest animal and I don’t want to loose him but I have no idea what the problem is. I’m or what to do I can’t get to the vets for 4 days what can I do?
His Viv is 3ft by 2ft
His a basking temp is 90-100 with his cold side being 70-80
His humidity can be harder to maintain but usually somewhere between 65%-76% as his a mareuke
Iv tried every substrate and had issues with everything but at the moment his in newspaper because of his feet
Help :(

Re: Help :(
Awww sorry to hear what you've both been through!
Difficult to say what the best route is here.. it seems depending on how far the mouth rot is developed depends on what can be done. If it's still in the early stages, then some sources say they should not be "given very juicy food items like tomato juice, cat food or even mangos. Instead, feed it with more solid foods like leafy vegetables, strawberries, raspberries etc". Maybe somewhere to start? Otherwise I don't know if much can be changed until given prescriptions from a vet..
Do you happen to have any images of your setup and bluey? (I know currently you're having to do newspaper, but do you have any images of it before?) It may give some ideas on whether things can be changed around, along with ID confirmation (just in case, as I have a suspicion that as the humidity is in a decent range for a merauke - the loss of a toe/dry scales could indicate you may have a Halmahera type).
And a few bits to confirm:
- what is your current diet routine?
- Are high phosphorous food such as banana frequently being fed? (as can inhibit calcium absorption, but can be counteracted by providing lots of vegetables/leafy greens)
- How are you providing calcium/frequency? Does it include D3?
- With humidity, have you checked if your hygrometer in case it's giving false readings (if you've not tested, try search for Hydrometer Salt test - it's one of the easier ways to know!)

Re: Help :(
Hi sorry for the delayed response , turns out I’m an over dramatic reptile owner he does not have mouth rot and his RI had not returned . So he is officially on the mend and nearly 100% healthy .

Re: Help :(
Glad to hear he's healthy! And don't worry, think most of us have been over-worried at one point (even when they are fine, I'm definitely guilty of this too.. oops). Should you have any questions, feel free to ask at any time
