Substrate Change

How often should I change my skink's substrate? I have heard every 3 months but I have also heard every time it sheds. Im using Repti Bark (fir bark) and my skink is currently shedding.

I use the same or similar. I spot clean every day and take the cages down completely and re-do every three/four months.

Even after they shed? Do the flakes hurt or irritate my skink?

I also spot clean every single day ( feces, urates, shed, etc). Then every 3 months full enclosure clean out. Any left shed on the substrate won't hurt your reptile. I personally just hate a dirty enclosure, so I manually clean it out when they do shed.
