How far should my basking light be from my skink?

Postby araquanid » Tue Aug 29, 2017 11:36 am

I was planning on using a basking light (probably a 100w one, since that was recommended) and was wondering how far should I keep it from my skink?
The tank is a short one, 12 inches high, will it be a problem if the lamp is sitting on top, or will I need to raise it up a bit?

might not be tall enough to place the basking globe under the viv's celing/lid .... is going to trial & error to get the basking spot temp right for his species.

You shouldn't worry about the height of the lamp, you have to look into the temps of the basking spot
If it is too hot, raise it up, if it is too cold, bring it down.
It's really hard to predict the ideal height since there are a lot of factors, between the lamp's brand, to the material of the basking spot and the enclosure, the size of the enclosure, ventilation, etc.
So like kingofnobbys said above, it really is trial and error.
