What kind of BTS is he?

I bought a blue tongue skink off of craigslist a few days ago and i was told he was a northern. I would just like some clarification that he is. Or if he isn't, i want to know what breed he is and why?

Looks like an Irian jaya. I would get him off aspen. Too dry for that species. He'll have shedding issues and could possibly develop a respiratory infection if kept too dry. You want about 69-% humidity.

Yes definitely a hybrid. Looks like northern x IJ. Will make a great pet. Just never breed him.

I also would say a Northern and IJ cross. Definitely switch to a better humidity holding substrate. Good luck with your new BTS. Very adorable by the way :-)

If he is indeed an IJ cross, the higher the better. Check out the individual care sheets on the species and they will give you a better idea. I don't have IJ, but I think they need it around 80% if I remember correctly.

60% should be right according to the species care sheets. Have a couple of hides available, one of them a humid hide.

Just to update everyone. I changed the bedding to repti bark with coconut fiber stuff on top. I also made him a humid hide and he loves it, using sphagnum moss inside. Im probably going to put some hay on top of it to hide the box a bit. I also need to get him a nice basking rock, the climbing green thing is a bit small for him and he seems to hate it since its difficult to get up on. Things seem a bit crowded so im planning on keeping the turtle shell hide in only at night since he usually sleeps in it. Another thing, if i get some kind of bridge for him to climb up on to get on top of the humid hide, will he be able to fall off and hurt himself or should he be okay?
