Can BTS eat Dermestid Beetles?

Postby Kaija » Mon Sep 19, 2011 8:07 pm

I'm wondering about this, as my roomate is intending on getting a colony of Dermestid's for cleaning skull's.. (meat rabbits, deer, etc.) He was wondering if my critters would be able to eat the younger beetles. I already have roaches going for them, but, I am not really sure if it is safe to feed carrion beetles. Anyone have any clue?..

ugh...no clue if BTS can eat carrion beetles.
But, I *do* know that the smell of them is going to be unpleasant.
Not just the carcasses they're eating - but they, themselves.
They REEK. It's so awful.

LOL....We had them in a small shed out back, and the whole yard was rank.
I remember saying to my husband:
"The neighbors likely think we're worshiping satan back here! It would probably be less suspicious
if we were to just take all these heads and put them on stakes on the front lawn."

Honestly, Kaija, I'm not trying to be pessimistic,
but I seriously hope your roomie doesn't think he's going to be able to do this indoors. It's super nasty.
