Superworms??

Postby doesajiwoo » Wed Feb 15, 2017 6:19 am

I'm getting a bts soon and I was wondering how many (ballpark range) superworms an adult bts could eat in one feeding? I'm trying to calculate how many I have to buy each week and how much it will cost. Feedback would be much appreciated! :ohyes:

:btsnet2:

An adult BTS can eat several at one time ... but I wouldn't recommend you feed them exclusively (in case that's what you were thinking of doing). I would make them part of a very varied diet.
It's mandatory to post pics of your BTS as soon as you get it.

Thanks, and I'm thinking of using superworms, dubia roaches, and maybe some crickets (but they freak me out  ) blue buffalo canned dog food, and of course all the greens and such. I'm not able to start a colony of any type which bums me out because that would be cheaper than buying more every time, but oh well. I've heard that an adult can eat 10-12 worms at a time? That's all I could find as information after extensive research, and it seems like that's not enough for a bts per feeding. Can you tell me how many on average?

I only feed them as treats, they'll usually stop eating them when they've had their fill. Sometimes they do not want them at all. I raise my own Dubias but superworms are so cheap it's not worth breeding them. I'd suggest when you buy your insects to keep them for a day or two and feed them well to let their systems cycle out whatever they were eating before (sometimes each other if purchase from pet shops!) I feed mine (both Dubias and superworms) bearded dragon pellets and greens/carrots and water crystals for the Dubias. The mortality rate is near zero, and healthy bugs make healthy reptiles!

My 2 are so weird about supers! One day I'll offer some and they're completely uninterested. Another day, they'll act so excited but only eat maybe 2 or 3 before losing interest...but still looking at me like they're hungry for something else.
My bearded will often have a chopped piece or 2 that fell out of her mouth and she won't touch those pieces. So I'll give them to my older bts who seems to get more excited by that rather than eating the whole worm!

There is no exact number. They eat as many as they want. Sometimes 20, sometimes 3. Sometimes they don't even look. When one of my northerns was five months old I counted 25. I wouldn't give him any more though he was still looking. Voraciouos eaters their first year. My adults usually lose interest after about a dozen or so. They are not like bearded dragons that will eat them till they puke. They'll stop when they're full.
