and I'd like to set up something that will allow the skinks to enjoy the summer weather. I don't need it to be humongous, as I'm planning for them to go out individually. I would like it to be portable so that I don't have to permanently sacrifice a section of the yard, so that it can be moved into or away from the sun/shade, and so that I can pack it up and put it away during the winter or when its not being used.
Here's my rough draft idea. Please give me your feedback and suggestions.
I'm thinking about taking 3-4 panels of plexiglass, at least 30" high, and maybe 40" or so long. My thinking is that if I use the plexi panels I can push them down into the soil a few inches to prevent burrowing. To connect the panels I would like to drill a few holes down each side, then use a connecter like this
to join each panel together. My thinking here is that it would allow my shape to be a little more flexible, as I can create different angles, also I'd be able to easily fold it flat and take it apart. Obviously I would ensure that the gaps at the corners are no more than 1/2" wide. For the top I would just buy a hunk of window screen to lay over the enclosure, drill some holes on the top edges of the plexi panels and tie the screen down.
It is not my intent to keep the blueys in this enclosure when I'm not home, or overnight. This would be used for each animal to get outside for a few hours a day, while I'm at home and able to regularly check on them outside. I also don't want to have to keep them under constant supervision while they are outside.
Obviously I would also provide shade, hides, water, etc.
So.... whatcha think?
