Pygmy Spiney-tailed Skink

Postby Ray Gurgui » Wed Aug 07, 2013 2:46 pm

I just got these back from a breeding loan. They were produced by my male and a friends female, that are a cross (X) between the original parents , that are Egernia Depressa - southern pygmy spiny-tailed skink and Egernia Cygnitos Sp. - western Pilbara spiny-tailed skink . These breeding's were all started before E. Depressa was recatigorized into 4 different groups. These babies are a 2nd generation cross, my friend gets to keep the first pair that was produced in 2011 for all the work he did , the second pair of babies from 2012 were separated, I think because one was smaller and was getting bullied by the other one, so I get one of those :) , and the 2013 pair of babies I now have also.

I love these , they are amazing , I don't know how I went 4 years without any of my adults here
but it was worth it .

Now to figure out who I bring to Daytona next week to sell, if any? :noknow:
Maybe I'll just keep them all !! :hehe:

Those are great Ray! I have not been good at keeping up with all of the new Egernia classifications, But I have loved all of the spiney tails for years. I will definitely talk to you about them when I acquire enough real-estate in this house to keep more animals.

Awwwww, so cute! I would totally buy one (except I'm a broke grad student and I won't be at Daytona) but if I were you, I would totally keep them all!

I was fortunate to see one of the parents of these juveniles and they are even better looking in person.

A good question,i have a funny feeling there actually suprisinly cheaper in the us than australia,or similarish in price, over here the southerns thats ive seen seem to average around 12 hundred a pop,the more northern varieties ive seen as high as 2 grand a pop,but there not often advertised alot in aus so they could be on the higher side of the average

My gosh these are wonderful. I see it's a rather old post (I'm a new member) and I wonder if you've built up a colony and offer them for sale? To waiting lists no doubt! And for extravagant prices. I see they're being hybridized. Have you noticed if this results in a more robust offspring? It sometimes does in species-group animals (but can result in sterility if not sufficiently alike).
